As one of the critical dimensions of sustainable development, social development requires a more holistic, coherent and collaborative approach in designing and implementing national and local policies to make progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).

CIFAL Jeju/JITC provides a variety of training programs to enhance capacity for national and local communities in the Asia-Pacific region to benefit from holistic and multi-disciplinary approaches available in such diverse areas as human trafficking, migration and refugees, urban poor, resilience and disaster risk reduction, making peaceful and inclusive societies, and so on.

CIFAL Jeju Co-organizes International Workshop on

 human security in the Asia Pacific Region


4 November 2016, Jeju, Republic of Korea – CIFAL Jeju convened 19 government officials (central, state and local) and NGO workers from seven different countries in the Asia-Pacific region for a 15 day workshop on " Enhancing Human Security in the Asia Pacific Region: Identification, Assistance and Sustainable Protection of Victims of Trafficking." Sponsored by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), CIFAL Jeju, in collaboration with The Regional Support Office of the Bali Process (RSO) held the event from October 21 to 4 November 2016 at KOICA International Cooperation Center in Seongnam and Jeju International Training Center in Jeju.

Countries represented in the workshop included Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The event served as a platform to build capacities in human security including identification, assistance and sustainable protection of victims of trafficking as well as challenges and opportunities for developing partnerships among origin, transit and destination countries. The lectures focused on key topics including identification, assistance and protection of human trafficking victims; prosecution of the traffickers; refugee protection; child victim protection; developing referral networks; and campaign checklist. The workshop also included field visits to learn and experience on human security issues in Korea by visiting Korean Demilitarized Zone, Jeju Women Diver Museum and others. 

 

The workshop was highly dynamic including action plan presentations of the participants on implementation of strategies to enhance human trafficking policies in each participated country.
