on Accelerating Multi-stakeholder Partnerships for the SDGs

28 October, 3 & 4 November 2021, Jeju, Republic of Korea – UNITAR CIFAL Jeju organized a virtual workshop on “Accelerating Multi-stakeholder Partnerships for the SDGs” on October 28, November 3 & 4. The event invited 36 representatives from the governmental sector along with NGOs and Academia. They came from 11 countries including: Philippines, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Egypt and Iran.

The workshop provided the participants with a learning opportunity where the invited speakers, Serena Li (World Resources Institute), Maggie Dennis (World Resources Institute), Tim Bishop (The Partnering Initiative), and Booyuel Kim (Seoul National University) shared an extensive expertise on what a transformative partnership means and how it can contribute to accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals, and working knowledge on how to design and implement multi-stakeholder partnerships.

The invited experts put an emphasis on leveraging the private sector as a key partner for the SDGs in such areas as technology and innovation, vision and scaling, and business acumen and experience. In the meantime, the participants gained insight into the main success factors in designing and implementing multi-stakeholder partnerships, building blocks of effective partnerships, and different forms of partnership in varying contexts.

During the workshop, the participants presented multi-stakeholder partnership cases analyzed using a SWOT approach. Based on the case study presentation, both the peer participants and the invited speakers shared opinions and experiences through the questions and answers. As part of the workshop program for more active knowledge sharing, CIFAL Jeju made a book of compilation consisting of the participants' action plan in the infographic format and case study insights.
