Global Citizenship Education (GCED) encourages learners to understand the close interconnection between their local communities and the wider world, fostering shared values and collective actions for a peaceful and sustainable future.

The UNITAR Jeju International Training Center (JITC) promotes the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its annual “Visiting Global Citizenship Education Program.” Each year, the program reaches elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as youth across Jeju, exploring the core theme of interconnectedness alongside elective topics such as human rights, poverty, career development, multiculturalism, and environmental sustainability. Among the participating schools, partner schools are invited to join the intensive program, offering students enriched learning experiences that help them grow into globally minded citizens who engage both locally and internationally.

In addition, JITC has developed and implemented a Jeju Model of Global Citizenship Education to advance the localization of GCED within the region. The Center also operates a Jeju GCED Expert Community, providing a platform for educators and practitioners to share insights, exchange best practices, and strengthen their professional capacity. Through these initiatives, JITC continues to foster a sustainable and locally driven ecosystem for Global Citizenship Education in Jeju.
