UNITAR CIFAL Jeju is one of the two subsidiary organs of the International Peace Foundation(IPF). The other is Jeju Peace Institute, a partner as well as a resource pool of UNITAR CIFAL Jeju. IPF was established in 2005 in tandem with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province being designated as the Island of World Peace by the government of Republic of Korea in the same year. Jeju Province promotes Jeju Island as a place to discuss world peace through summit meetings and international conferences in an effort to make significant contributions to enhancing peace and security in East Asia and in the world.

In this regard, UNITAR CIFAL Jeju is in a good position to gain synergy effects by working closely with Jeju Peace Institute, Moreover, peace is essential, as a concept as well as a fact, to human security, environment, and sustainable tourism - main thematic areas of UNITAR CIFAL Jeju. It is appropriate in this context that the Board of IPF acts concomitantly as the Board of UNITAR CIFAL Jeju, with UNITAR as a full member when UNITAR CIFAL Jeju, with UNITAR as a full member when UNITAR CIFAL Jeju-related matters are on its agenda. The Board members are the representatives from the following organization: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju Free International City Development Center, Jeju National University, East Asia Foundation, Korea Foundation, Jeju Peace Institute, and Northeast Asian History Foundation. The Director of UNITAR CIFAL Jeju is also a member of the board.
