Background
The global tourism landscape is undergoing a fundamental shift from mass tourism toward high-value, local-centric experiences.[1] While many nations in the Asia-Pacific region possess abundant natural and cultural resources, they often struggle to translate these assets into structured, community-based business models.[2] This results in a lack of value chain integration, making it difficult for tourism revenue to be fully reinvested into the local community and its Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in urban settings.
To address these challenges, the "Sixth Industry" model has emerged as a strategic alternative. This model integrates primary (production), secondary (processing), and tertiary (tourism/service) industries into a single, cohesive value chain.[3] By linking local specialties directly with tourism content, it maximizes added value at the local level and ensures that the benefits of tourism are shared more equitably and retained within the community. In this scenario, understanding the synergy between these sectors is essential for sustainable and inclusive growth across both urban and peripheral areas.
Recognizing the need for practical knowledge, this webinar aims to provide actionable insights and information to help local governments capitalize on their community assets. By sharing global expertise from international organizations and successful regional case studies within the Asia-Pacific, the program will offer a platform for knowledge exchange on successful 6th-industry applications.
This comprehensive webinar aims to offer an opportunity for participants to increase their knowledge of creating sustainable, community-based business models that improve program efficacy and regional revenue. By bringing together experts and stakeholders, we intend to foster a collaborative environment that empowers participants to elevate the impact of their tourism policies and establish a solid foundation for continuous information sharing among international organizations and leading municipalities. Through these efforts, we seek to support the implementation of effective economic revitalization strategies and drive meaningful, inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region. Ultimately, this initiative aims to contribute to achieving “Sustainable Urban Transformation” by fostering resilient and self-sustaining local economies.

This capacity building training workshop will:
