UNITAR Jeju International Training Center (JITC), in cooperation with ICLEI, organized a hybrid Workshop on "E-Mobility Policy in the Asia-Pacific Region" in Jeju Island on May 2-4, 2023. Held in conjunction with the 10th International Electric Vehicle Expo, the Workshop addressed environmental challenges in the transportation sector, focusing on electric vehicle policies, charging stations, and smart public transportation systems in the Asia-Pacific region. Participants also developed sustainable transport projects tailored to each participant’s country conditions and environment.
The Workshop aimed to raise awareness about urgent actions needed in the transportation sector to address climate change. Lecture sessions from 10 lecturers covered topics such as policy frameworks, urban planning, financial mechanisms, and sustainable transport technologies, and methodologies to draft international climate funding proposal. Also as a parallel session of the EXPO, Day 2 sessions were open to EXPO visitors.
Participants also presented group assignments, creating problem trees, and formulating potential projects using logical frameworks and action plans. Eight problems were identified across eight developing countries, including carbon-intensive and inadequately serviced public transportation. The outcome led to the formulation of eight projects focusing on solutions for decarbonized and cleaner mobility in the Asia-Pacific region, such as electric vehicles and transit-oriented development urban planning.
