Workshop on ‘A Greener
Tomorrow:
Environmentally Sound
Technologies for Sustainable Development’

CIFAL Jeju organized two-week virtual capacity building workshop on “A Greener
Tomorrow: Environmentally Sound Technologies for Sustainable Development”. The
workshop took place two times from 5 to 12 August 2020. UNITAR CIFAL Jeju invited
19 participants working on policies and projects related to environment,
technology, and innovation in governmental sector, academia, NGOs and International
Organizations. They came from 10 countries in the Asia-Pacific region including
Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri
Lanka, Thailand.
UNITAR CIFAL jeju has
organized workshop in a sense that technology is the key to solving global
challenges. In the foreseeable future, green technology will be a driver to
promote sustainable growth and development, however, there are large
disparities in green technology between countries in Asia. Thus, it becomes
important to bridge the gap by strengthening regional cooperation to enable
technologically deprived countries to take advantage of green technology to
foster green growth in Asia region
The workshop on green
technology served as a platform to provide participants with opportunity to
obtain a better understanding of the environmentally sound technologies. This
workshop provided the participants with valuable opportunities to stay abreast
with key developments in green technology transfer in Asia region.
Presentations focused on what environmentally sound technologies are, latest
trends in green technology transfer especially in Global South, and
development, implementation, and future prospect of green technology policies
in the case of Republic of Korea.
The virtual online
event also helped participants to make and develop specific action plans that
could help tackle environmental technologies related challenges in their home
countries.
