UNITAR Jeju International Training Center
(JITC) hosted a Workshop titled “A Pathway towards Decarbonized and Cleaner
Mobility in Asia and the Pacific – Envisioning Green Possibilities of Public
Mobility” in Jeju Island on April 30-May 2, 2024. The Workshop,
attended by 17 participants from eight Asia-Pacific developing countries, aimed
at advancing low-carbon and cleaner public mobility solutions in the region.
Participants explored various topics to
promote low-carbon and cleaner public mobility. These include UNESCAP’s cleaner
transportation policy in the region, locally-tailored strategies for developing
public mobility policies, with a focus on the Avoid-Shift-Improve framework,
opportunities for funding and financing, methodologies for drafting international
climate fund proposals, public mobility and pedestrian-friendly urban planning,
and case studies highlighting successful initiatives such as Korea's public
mobility financing mechanism, Seoul’s public transport renovation and Jeju's
15-minute city initiative.
As part of the program, they visited the
11th e-mobility Expo held concurrently in Jeju in the same week and CFI Future
Energy Center to deepen their understanding of Jeju's sustainable energy
policy. These visits offered hands-on experiences and deeper insights into
Jeju's sustainable energy policies and cutting-edge e-mobility technologies. Participants
also developed green public mobility projects and detailed action plans
tailored to their respective countries, leveraging the knowledge gained during
the sessions.
