CIFAL Jeju/JITC provides a variety of training programs to enhance capacity for national and local communities in the Asia-Pacific region to benefit from holistic and multi-disciplinary approaches available in such diverse areas as human trafficking, migration and refugees, urban poor, resilience and disaster risk reduction, making peaceful and inclusive societies, and so on.

on Post COVID-19 era: Pathways to the Resilient Livelihoods of the Urban Poor during the Pandemic

28 July – 4 August 2020, Jeju, Republic of Korea – UNITAR CIFAL Jeju organized an online workshop on “Post COVID-19 era: Pathways to the Resilient Livelihoods of the Urban Poor during the Pandemic” on July 28 and August 4 using the online platform “Zoom”.

The event invited 15 representatives from the governmental sector along with NGOs and International Organizations. They came from 10 different countries including: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bolivia, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Rwanda, and Uganda.

The event was composed of two online sessions: one with experts’ presentations and Q&A(July 28), and the other one with case study presentations by group from participants and comments from experts(August 4). The invited experts were Ms, Rahnuma Salam Khan, development economist based in Bangladesh, Mr. Christian Viegelahn, labour economist at the Regional Office for Asia-Pacific of the ILO, and Ms. Amrita Saha, research fellow at the Institute of Development Studies.

Although the participants and experts were not able to physically attend the event due to the COVID-19 situation, all of them were heavily involved in the online sessions through active interaction with insightful knowledge and the different case studies from different contexts. This has made the event as resourceful as possible. The workshop participants discussed the dilemma facing the urban poor in the COVID-19 context, policy responses to COVID-19 for the resilient livelihoods of the urban poor, and the importance of assessing the potential impact of policies and measures for the urban poor.
