Provisional Objectives

 

             At the end of the parallel session, the participants should be able to:

  1.  Articulate the rationale for ensuring the social protection of migrants amid the climate crisis;
  2. Identify social protection measures for migrants experiencing climate risks; and

  3. Provide policy recommendations on social protection of climate migrants both in countries of destination and countries of origin

    • Challenges posed by climate change to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), specifically those related to hunger, health, and poverty and their relation to the decision of people to either move or stay
    • Social protection in the context of climate change, migration and development, and their integration
    • Protective, preventive, promotive, and transformative functions of social protection programmes for migrants experiencing climate risks
    • Current best practices of governments in ensuring social protection for climate migrants
