UNITAR CIFAL Jeju organized a three-day hybrid workshop "Advancing the Digital Capacities of SMEs & Startups for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development" from July 19th to July 21st, 2023. The workshop aimed to provide SMEs and startups from Asia-Pacific countries with information on current digital technology developments. The workshop consisted of 7 lecture sessions, 2 case presentations, participants interaction with each other through PPT presentations and a field trip to KAKAO headquarters located in Jeju.

The workshop covered various topics including global perspectives on SMEs in the digital environment, the attitude of Asia-Pacific countries towards digital transformation, SMEs digital divide and ways to overcome it to become digital maturity, recent digital development trends represented by AI and ChatGBT, Korean SMEs digital preparedness and financing mechanisms for SMEs’ digital maturity.

During the workshop, 9 economic officers from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam together with 20 representatives of Korean SMEs, startups and research institutes actively participated and more than 190 online participants from 30 countries also registered to attend.

The workshop provided participants with opportunities to analyze current status of digital transformation, learn how to transform from digital divide to digital maturity, and explore policy guidelines and financing mechanisms to build their digital capacities. In addition, it served as a valuable occasion for industry representatives to explore possible business opportunities in the Asia-Pacific countries.

UNITAR 제주국제연수센터는 주한 아태지역 대사관 경제담당관 및 중소기업과 스타트업 대표들을 초청하여 아태지역 중소기업 및 스타트업의 디지털 혁신과 민관협력을 주제로 2023.7.19-21간 하이브리드 워크숍을 제주국제연수센터 세미나실에서 개최하였다. 워크숍에서는 한국을 포함한 아태지역 기업의 디지털 혁신 현황을 분석하고 디지털 성숙도를 진단하며 이들의 디지털 역량 강화방안을 모색함과 아울러 재원 확보방안을 학습하는 기회가 되었다. 또한 참석한 한국기업과 대사관 대표들은 기업활동과 자국 디지털 현황을 각각 소개하고 상호협력 및 기업활동 기회를 모색하는 기회도 되었다.
