UNITAR CIFAL Jeju and UN CTCN (Climate Technology Centre & Network) jointly held the online international capacity-building Workshop under the title of “Enhancing Inclusivity and Accessibility to Climate Technologies for All” from September 7 to 8, 2023. The Workshop aimed to provide developing countries with more and easier access to climate technologies with which they can address climate crisis in their countries.

Climate technologies can be broadly categorized into mitigation technologies and adaptation technologies. An example of the former category includes renewable generation technologies which enable industries and societies to reduce carbon emissions, and the latter category covers innovations like drought-resistant crops that would help us to stay resilient toward the climate crisis. The technologies in both ways are indispensable in our proactive response to the climate change.

650 participants from all around the world, representing 93 countries registered the Workshop. During the Workshop, participants were introduced to the field of climate technologies and the Technology Mechanism of the Paris Agreement. In addition, the Workshop also aimed to enhance accessibility by providing information on various climate technology platforms, such as WIPO Green Database and Climate Technology Information System from Republic of Korea that could facilitate their connections to these technologies.

Furthermore, special sessions were meticulously organized to engage multiple stakeholders for more inclusive climate technology ecosystems. These sessions, such as Multi-Stakeholder Conversation & Exchange of Voices, as well as the Climate Technology Demand Modules, provided platforms for participants to share challenges, potential breakthroughs, and ideas related to the widespread adoption of climate technologies. Through presentations and interactive activities, participants actively could contribute to addressing on-site challenges and exploring strategies to facilitate the dissemination of these vital technologies.

UNITAR CIFAL Jeju와 UN CTCN (기후 기술 센터 및 네트워크)은 2023년 9월 7일부터 8일까지 '모두를 위한 기후 기술의 포용성과 접근성 강화'라는 주제로 온라인 국제 역량 강화 워크숍을 공동으로 개최했다. 해당 워크숍은 개발도상국 참가자들이 자국의 기후 위기에 대처하기 위해 더 많고 쉬운 접근성을 갖게끔 기후 기술을 제공하는 데 목적을 두었다.

기후 기술은 감축 기술과 적응 기술로 크게 분류할 수 있는데, 전자의 예로는 산업과 사회가 탄소 배출을 줄이도록 도와주는 재생에너지 기반 발전 기술이 포함되며, 후자의 범주에는 기후 위기에 대한 저항력을 강화하는 가뭄 내구성 작물 재배 기술과 같은 농업 혁신이 포함된다. 해당 기술은 모두 기후 변화에 대응하기 위해 우리의 적극적인 대응을 위해 필수적이다.

93개국 약 650명의 참가자가 워크숍에 등록했으며, 참가자들은 세션 동안 기후기술 분야에 대한 전반의 설명과 파리협정의 기술 메커니즘에 대한 지식을 넓힐 수 있는 시간을 가졌다. 또한, WIPO Green 데이터베이스 및 대한민국의 기후 기술 정보 시스템과 같은 다양한 기후 기술 플랫폼에 대한 소개 세션을 통해 기후기술-참가자 간의 연결을 촉진하였다.

그 뿐만 아니라 더 포용적인 기후 기술 생태계를 위해 다양한 이해관계자가 참여할 수 있는 특별 세션을 마련하였다. '기후기술 생태계의 포괄성 증진을 위한 이해관계자 패널토론'과 ' 모두를 위한 기후기술’에 대한 의견 및 기후기술 수요 공유' 세션을 마련하여, 참가자들이 현장에서 기후기술 개발 또는 보급에 있어 느끼고 있는 한계를 공유하고, 참가자들이 기후기술 활성화를 위한 개인, 사회, 국제적 범위에서의 해결책을 함께 모색해 볼 수 있는 플랫폼을 제공했다. 이러한 발표와 인터랙티브 활동을 통해 참가자들은 현지에서 기후기술 개발과 보급의 과정에서 발생하는 한계에 대해 함께 논의하고, 중요한 기술의 보급을 촉진할 수 있는 전략을 함께 탐구할 수 있는 소중한 시간을 가질 수 있었다.
