The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Jeju International Training Center (JITC), in collaboration with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and United Cities and Local Governments, arranged the "2023 Global Young Creatives Residency" from September 14thto September 20th2023 in Jeju Island. The JITC invited 24 domestic and international young artists to help enhance their capabilities to be global cultural artists.

The 2023 Global Young Creatives Residency is an annual international cultural exchange program where young cultural and artistic professionals from various fields around the world gather in Jeju to share creative ideas on "Art" and "Sustainability" and form practical networks.

This year's event, the fifth one, themed "Rooted, Growing Island," consisted of programs that explored Jeju's environmental and traditional roots through trees and inspired participants to be more creative. The event also included visit programs in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the "Jeju: Homo Migratio" special international exhibition at the Jeju Museum of Art.

Around 40 renowned domestic artists such as Yo-bae Kang, Haesun Jwa, Hwa-seon Yang, Kura Yang, Sungwoo Kim, and Yong-ho Ji, as well as famous domestic designers like Haeyoung Kim and Youngha Park, along with Bogyoung Kang (Arts Council Korea), Ehwa Yoo (Itami Jun MUSEUM), Heesong Ko (Jeju Foundation for Arts and Culture), Jeong Hwan Jeon (KRYPTON), and various international artists such as Alfonso Borragán (Spain), Folasade Okunribido, Siân Prime (Professor at Goldsmiths, University of London), and Taewon Park (UK), João Villas (Brazil), Takashi Matsuda (Japan), Witinan Watanasap (Thailand), who have been engaged in internationally recognized activities in the areas of painting, design, architecture, etc., have participated in this event as lecturers. Young artists had useful experiences by being actively engaged in lectures as well as visits to several historic and artistic sites of Jeju Island.

유엔훈련연구기구(UNITAR) 제주국제연수센터는 제주특별자치도와 세계지방정부연합과 함께 24명의 국내외 청년 예술가들의 창의 역량강화를 통해 글로벌 문화예술가로서의 성장을 지원할 목적으로 ‘2023 글로벌 청년창의레지던시' 행사를 2023.09.14 - 09.20간 제주도에서 개최했다.

올해로 5회차를 맞는 2023 글로벌 청년창의레지던시는 다양한 영역에 종사하는 전 세계 젊은 문화예술 전문가들이 제주에 모여 ‘예술’과 ‘지속가능성’에 관한 창의적 아이디어를 나누고 실질적인 네트워크를 형성하는 국제 문화교류 사업이다.

이번 행사는 ‘내려진 뿌리, 자라는 섬(Rooted, Growing Island)’을 주제로 하며, 특히 제주도 각지에 분포한 나무를 통한 예술적 영감을 얻도록 하는 프로그램들로 구성됐다. 또 ‘제주도립미술관 국제특별전 프로젝트 제주: 이주하는 인간 호모 미그라티오’ 개막식에도 참석하고 여러 기관의 전시작품도 감상토록 진행되었다.

 강요배 작가와 김성우, 양쿠라, 양화선, 좌혜선, 지용호 등 국내 유명 작가를 비롯해 김해영, 박영하 등의 국내 유명 디자이너, 강보경 (한국문화예술위원회), 고희송 (제주문화예술재단), 유이화 (유동룡미술관), 전정환 (크립톤) 등을 비롯해 Alfonso Borragán (스페인), Folasade Okunribido, Sian Prime (Goldsmiths, University of London), Taewon Park (영국), João Villas (브라질), Takashi Matsuda (일본), Witinan Watanasap (태국) 등 회화, 디자인, 건축, 예술재단 등 다양한 분야및 국가에서 적극 활동중인 40여명의 국내외 예술가들이 다양한 강연 프로그램을 진행했다. 청년 예술가들은 적극적인 강의참석뿐 아니라 제주도의 여러 역사 및 예술 시설 체험 등의 다양한 현장방문을 하는 등 유익한 경험을 하였다.
