As critical thinkers, change-makers, innovators, communicators and leaders, the young generation is increasingly engaging with each other on a number of platforms both online and offline. Provided with the necessary knowledge and opportunities needed to reach their potential, young people can be a driving force for promoting sustainability in this new era of globalization.

CIFAL Jeju / JITC organizes a number of programs including international youth workshops, forums, and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) to invite Korean foreign students alike to understand the commonality of the global issues and to become active promoters of more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive, secure, and sustainable societies.

Jeju International Future Generation Forum
The Forum aims to foster youth global leadership by promoting actionable engagement in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Participating young leaders take the in-depth discussion on up-to-date issues such as youth employment, education development and health and well-being. The youth are given unique opportunities not only to build collective minds but also to vitalize city diplomacy by building a hub of social networking through cultural exchange.

Jeju International Youth Forum
CIFAL Jeju organized Jeju International Youth Forum from 2016 to 2021 with the aim to promote Jeju to the world and to connect talented teenage youth across the globe. The event was conducted with a focus on strengthening the leadership skills of the talented young people, exchanging different perspectives on critical global issues and enhancing the cultural understanding of each other.

CIFAL Jeju organises 16th Youth Online Workshop

on Digital Partnership for the Implementation of the SDGs

Centre International de Formation des Autorités et Leaders Jeju (CIFAL Jeju) organized the 16th Youth Workshop on Digital Partnership for the Implementation of the SDGs entirely online from 13 July to 10 August 2020.

The workshop aimed to raise young people’s awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as strengthen their capacity for being active advocates

of the global goals. To this end, CIFAL Jeju linked the online workshop with the UNITAR MOOC Introduction to the 2030 Agenda: A New Agenda for a Sustainable

World (9th edition), where the participating students form a group and upload a post about each module on their social media account.

A total of 50 undergraduate and graduate students from 26 different countries joined this online workshop and shared their national policies and

their suggestions/ideas virtually through various types of social media.

The online workshop that stretched out over four weeks is composed of three parts including taking UNITAR MOOC, creating individual content

on SDGS and national policy, group presentation/final report. On the Online Kick-off Meeting on July 13th, Sul Kyung Hoon, Director of CIFAL Jeju

gave an opening remarks, introducing this workshop as the first online activity to be organized in the 10-year history of the center.

CIFAL Jeju also offered ‘Meet the Experts (Mentoring)’ Session from July 31st to August 6th, where five mentors were invited.

They include, Professor. Booyeol Kim of Seoul National University, Professor. Byungjoo Kim of KDI School of Public Policy and Management,

Mr. Junghyun Kim from the World Economic Forum, Dr. Young-tae Kim, Secretary General of the International Transport Forum (ITF), and

Ms. Joo hyun Ha from the United Nations Environment Programme. Each mentor gave a short introduction of the field they represent,

such as inclusive society, trade and financing, capacity-building, climate, and energy. They also shared with the students their experiences

in setting a life direction, getting into an international organization, and other real-life advice as answers to students’ questions.

The group presentation which took place on August 7th marked the last virtual gathering of the 16thYouth Workshop. Each group was given 10 minutes

to summarize their 2-week activities and to share their thoughts after the mentoring session. Students responded with comments like

“I believe that this workshop was very informative and useful for those who are interested in SDGs. It was great to participate in an UNITAR activity

and expand my knowledge in this,” among others.
