UNITAR CIFAL Jeju co-organized
the 10th Jeju international youth forum, which was hosted by Jeju Special
Self-Governing Province, with Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office in
Jeju, Republic of Korea.
The 10thInternational Youth Forum took place from 31 October to 4 December 2019. There were
154 participants (123 students and 31 teachers) from 9 countries and 27 cities across
the world including Jeju’s sister and friendship cities, member cities of
international organizations, and East Asian cultural cities.
Youth around the world
are easily impacted by global issues such as conflict and extremism, poverty
and gender inequality, though they
are not responsible for most of those issues. Since youth engagement and
participation in the course of securing peace and prosperity is becoming more
and more important, UNITAR CIFAL Jeju has provided a platform for our young
leaders to have a deeper understanding of the importance of sustainable peace.
In this regard, under
the theme of ‘A Global Responsibility in the Face of Challenges: The Role of
World Young Leaders in Building and Sustaining Peace’, participants discussed
global issues including peacebuilding, poverty reduction and gender issues, and
exchanged different cultures and perspectives. In addition, the forum fostered
youth leadership development and helped participants to form friendships and
trust beyond borders, and to better understand different cultures.
After one and a half
days’ busy preparation of panel discussion presentation, 123 promising
teenagers around the world stepped onto the stage and performed a creative,
amusing and inspiring presentation on the topics they have discussed with the
use of video clipping, sketching, and even acting for the audience.
Participants also took a field trip to Jeju 4.3 Peace Park and Jeju Pacific Rim
Park. They built a global citizenship by learning the history and culture of
peace there.
